Time to find other search engine...
I had noticed something odd with Google lately but I didn't know what it was until l read a thread on another forum. Google has been "infiltrated" by a neocon Carlyle boy. Alternatives: http://www.teoma.com/ http://www.ask.com/ (Jeeves) http://dogpile.com/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/05/24/google_neocon/ Lookout, France! Google hires neo-con headbanger By Andrew Orlowski Published Tuesday 24th May 2005 09:42 GMT The company that prides itself on "Doing No Evil" isn't taking any chances with its latest executive appointment. Dan Senor, the company's new Global Communications and Strategy VP, has a CV guaranteed to have Register columnist Otto Z Stern firing a celebratory fusillade skywards from his compound in New Mexico. ![]() A former Senior Associate at the Carlyle Group, Senor was briefly Scott McLellan's deputy as White House spokesman before becoming head of the the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq's information department. The White House web site bills him as Senior Advisor to Presidential Envoy L. Paul Bremer III. Fox News hired Senor as a panelist in February. While in Iraq Senor showed his loyalty by going jogging in a Bush-Cheney '04 tracksuit. Not everyone is impressed. "I have come to associate his triangular, brush-cut head with an unceasing stream of bullshit. He's Ari Fleischer without the charm," writes one grump. "Hiring this guy is a repulsive move." An impressive resume, for sure, but one perhaps more useful to a company building a military task force than a search engine. And it'll be fascinating to see the reaction of the French, with whom Google is locked into some extremely sensitive negotiations, to Senor's brand of special diplomacy. Related stories (At link) Google values its own privacy. How does it value yours? Europe uniting against Schmidt's Google print project PR rules, OK? Ben Hammer Staff Reporter Google is beefing up its Washington-area presence by adding a couple of big names to its local team. The Mountain View, Calif.-based search engine giant has hired Dan Senor as vice president of global communications and strategy. Senor was the chief spokesman for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq and senior adviser to U.S. Ambassador Paul Bremer. In mid-April, Google hired Alan Davidson from the D.C.-based Center for Democracy & Technology, which advocates for constitutional rights in digital media. The company is also looking to hire a local manager of sales to Defense Department agencies. Some support staff also are needed. Google employees have met with at least one area tech company to discuss joint federal work, and a Google search of the company's offices (on www.google.com) shows a location in Vienna, where a separate company hosts and serves Google's Internet traffic. It is unclear whether Google will open a full-fledged office here or simply allow the new executives to represent its local presence. The company does have employees in Annapolis and Ashburn. The Washington hires represent a more sophisticated approach for Google on public policy and government contracts. "If you want to be a media company, you need to be in D.C. because of regulation," says Bill Raduchel, CEO of Herndon-based Ruckus Network and former chief technology officer of AOL Time Warner. "To stay No. 1 in the space, you need to go in and lock up the government [business] because the government is the way that a No. 2 or No. 3 [company] comes in and becomes a threat." A Google spokesman confirms Senor and Davidson have joined the company but would not comment further. Senor and Davidson did not return e-mails or phone calls for comment. In recent years, Google has become an online advertising powerhouse. It also sells software and hardware to companies for managing information and making it searchable. The same opportunities exist in the government marketplace -- and are expanding rapidly for several reasons. ..cont. page 2 http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/050518-084302 Google Hires Dan Senor To Head Communications; Other DC Hires & Lobbying Google has hired Dan Senor as vice president of global communications and strategy, replacing the spot vacated by Cindy McCaffrey earlier this year. Senor recently served as advisor to the US presidential envoy in Iraq. Rumors that he was being interviewed emerged last month. Google searches for, finds top level execs in D.C. from the Washington Business Journal has more details. The story also looks at hiring in the Washington DC area, including a manager of sales to US Defense Department agencies, efforts to apparently win more federal contracts, and the recent hiring of Alan Davidson, who apparently is heading up lobbying in Washington DC. http://www.whitehouse.gov/government/senor-bio.html ![]() Dan Senor Advisor to the U.S. Presidential Envoy in Iraq Dan Senor is a Senior Advisor to Presidential Envoy L. Paul Bremer III, Administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority. Senor traveled to Baghdad in mid-April in one of the first civilian convoys to enter Iraq following the fall of the former regime. He has been serving in Iraq since, advising Amb. Bremer on a variety of policy and communications issues. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Senor was based at Centcom Headquarters in Qatar, where he was Director of the Coalition Information Center. Senor has also served as a Legislative Aide, Press Secretary, and Communications Director for then-Senator Spencer Abraham (R-MI). Senor completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario and Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. http://www.whitehouse.gov/ask/20031010.html Welcome to "Ask the White House" -- an online interactive forum where you can submit questions to Administration Officials and friends of the White House. I was early onto the google bug over 6 years ago, when it first surfaced. It was good in the early days. Now though I hate it ( although I still use it ) with a passion. I hate the corporation it has become. The engine itself is now nearly completely at the mercy of other corporations. I think that it will destroy the internet as "we" know it. A place to find information away from the corporate media.
I think if google gets its way it`ll become what the other media has become, a bitch for the elite who will keep real knowledge away from the people. Google takes the creepy factor of big brother and multiplies it by a googleplex? |

of course they'll try (the corpnazis)- but i don't think it will work-
after all, china has been unable to keep info from the people- that 'google-zon' shit is scary (great link, panda- i immediately emailed it to friends)- but i notice the 'left-out' factor linux. and i don't see how 'epic' is really different from the media we have now.... -t- This post has been edited by tamara: Friday, 27 May 2005, 8:36 pm |

Much is owned by Google. After seeing this I think a boycott would be pretty much useless. It can be disturbing to see the future. And this one seems terribly plausible.

"(...) We used to try and trick your browser into giving us your Google cookie, assuming that you have one. One-third of those using Internet Explorer were vulnerable to our JavaScript exploit. But that got boring after a year, so now we merely send our server to Google's home page on occasion and pick up a new cookie to show you:
Gookie Yikes! Too many preservatives: Expires on January 17, 2038 PREF=ID=3048346b9569c378 TM=1117047399 LM=1117047399 S=PEbiA8IRSvyWnFhd The ID number is your very own. Either write it on your forehead, or delete your Google cookie so that they have to give you a new one. You may have some preferences set between this ID and the TM. TM=1117047399 means 2005-05-25 18:56:39 GMT -- the time when you first got this cookie. LM=1117047399 means 2005-05-25 18:56:39 GMT -- the last time you set some preferences. We believe the S= is a checksum to insure data integrity. The CIA had to stop using a comparatively innocent log-analysis cookie that expired in 10 years, and their document search site isn't even used by many people. Google handles 200 million searches per day, and their cookie expires in 2038. One of Google's leading software engineers, Matt Cutts, has a top-secret clearance and used to work for the National Security Agency. Google doesn't even feel the need to defend their cookie policy; they merely laugh off anyone who inquires about it. A cult of geeky blogging Google pundits joins in, and ridicules the notion that you'll be using the same computer in 2038. That's not the point. Google's expiration date is a barometer of its insensitivity to privacy issues. When we noticed this in year 2000 (it was the first time we had ever seen such a long-lived cookie), the idea of Google Watch was born. Google's response to other privacy issues since then tells us that we were right. The purpose of the unique ID is to record your search terms for present or future profiling. Google says that the cookie is needed to set preferences. At the CIA, Google's cookie story would be termed a cover story, because the unique ID is completely superfluous for this function, even when the rest of the cookie is used to do this. In fact, you can set preferences without any sort of cookie at all. (...)" source |

My nephew warned me to stay away from google when he sent me my first computer about four years ago. Said there are much better search engines and he didn't trust google then. I never questioned him--probably should have.

And if you like google's results but don't like its politics and bad behavior, use it by proxy and avoid their nasty little tattletale cookies altogether, with Scroogle. And Clusty really does kick ass.

Same here...I tried hard to switch...Dogpile, Clusty, Scroogle, they're "okay"...but old habits die hard. Then, Google wouldn't give up the info to the Feds (supposedly) and I reverted to it. And hell, gmail is so damned easy to deal with. If the NSA wants us...they know where we are. I find I now automatically filter myself and scroll down to other hits anyway. The first ones are often stupid and obvious plants, and I change keywords to manipulate based on what they gave back. If I see one more goddamned about.com as the first entry I'll puke...but the information is still there...just a hell of a lot harder to refine a search. And we KNOW they're in there editing and deleting whatever they can on any search engine anyway...Rumsfeld wants to catapult that propaganda. So, yes, I'm back to Googling. It beats dragging my ass down to the library.
